I’M A SEED OF A SEED

By Sam Bowles  10/01/06 a.m.

The latter part of Genesis 1:2 says, “. . . And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”  We are absolutely nothing without God, because without the Spirit of God moving, things cease to exist!

Genesis 1:11-12 says, “And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.  And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.”

Apples have seeds in them.  If you plant an apple seed, you are going to get an apple tree; it will produce exactly the fruit from which the seed came.  A banana won’t do that!  Those little black specks inside aren’t seeds!  If you plant a banana, it’s going to rot, because the seed is not within itself!  The definition of the banana tree is “a large, herbaceous plant with a perennial root, or a rhizome from which the plant is perpetuated by sprouts or suckers.  New stems are developed from the buds in the root stock.”  You would have to go to the root system and transplant it to get more bananas.

The Lord showed me that when we come into sin, it is not a seed that is planted in us, but a root that we have opened a door to.  A planted seed dies and growth follows. When a root is buried, it’s already alive; it doesn’t die.  The devil wants his root of evil to grow within your life and cause you to fall!

Adam and Eve were told that they could eat of every tree but one.  He gave them everything they needed.  He gave them the herb bearing trees, the trees that had the seed within themselves.

Why is it that the one thing that we’re told we can’t do - that’s what intrigues us the most?  When someone says, You can’t do this, something clicks inside of you!  You think, Now wait a minute.  Don’t tell me I can’t do that!  I will prove to you that I CAN!  It is our sinful nature.

As the tree is an exact replica of the seed, we are to be just like Jesus.  However, we’ve allowed worldly things to be transplanted by the Devil in us.  When we get those things out, Jesus has more room to grow in us.

Blackberry bushes just keep coming back!  The only way to get rid of them is to go down and dig the root out!  That’s our problem!  God says we need to change.  Let Him dig up the root system that has been there for years and cast it out!  Otherwise it will continue to sprout up!            Why are things happening to me?  Get rid of the root, and you get rid of the why!  We tolerate the root and the why with frustrated minds, but 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”  A death takes place, and the old roots (your sinful nature) should have already died out.  1 Peter 1:16 says, “. . . Be ye holy; for I am holy.”  Hebrews 12:14 tells us if we’re not holy, we are not going to see God.

John 3:19 says, “And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”  Without sunlight, bean crops, corn crops, gardens, and all plants die!  Why aren’t we growing in God?  We have to allow the Son of God to abide and let His Sonlight expose sin!

You will remain exactly the way you are until a change takes place.  Sometimes change is painful.  It hurts to get cut.  It hurts when the ax hits the root.   The pulling and tugging on that root causes a painful situation, but we must go through it in order to let Jesus Christ live in us!  If you don’t, the root of the world will be supreme over you.

You can’t have two masters.  In Luke 11:23 Jesus said, “He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.”  Judgment day is no time to decide, You know what?  That old crazy preacher who preached about a banana was right!  It’s going to be too late then to decide whether or not to cast the evil root OUT!

Does it bother you when the Lord isn’t speaking?  We have to go by faith that our prayer is being heard, even when we don’t understand.  We know it is being accomplished.  The seed is being allowed to grow and take off.  Someday it’s going to look good.  Elisha thought he was the only one left, but God told him He had some people reserved.  Sometimes you have to pray by yourself in the secret place of the most high. The devil can’t go there!

The Bible is full of promises, outweighing anything this world has to offer.  Yet people think they have to have the things of the world.  We exist here, but Jesus gave us an example that we can walk in a human body and still live a holy and perfect life!  We’ve got to look like Him, act like Him, and talk like Him.

You can want not to sin, but still do it.  The devil calls and woos you to sin, but God’s Spirit draws you to Jesus.  Which one are you going to make room for?  Galatians 5:19-21 lists the works of the flesh.  Galatians 5:22-25 lists the fruit of the Spirit.  The seed of Jesus within you produces the fruit of the Spirit.  These are His attributes and personality.  The fruit of the Spirit is a direct replica of Who He is.  We need to examine ourselves to find out what is in us.  If there is a problem, get it fixed!

You need to know who you are in Christ.  Examine yourself, and be honest.

1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
