KEY OF DAVID

by Pastor Kevin Badgley

Jeremiah 33:3 says, “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”

Jesus said in Matthew 16:19, “And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

We serve a supernatural God.  In John 10:9 Jesus said, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.”  Get in Christ and you can go in and out of the natural realm to the spiritual realm.  That is exactly what He meant.

First you receive Jesus; you get saved.  Then you get power to become a son of God (see John 1:12).  Whatever the Son of God did, the sons of God can do.  John 14:12 says, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.”

Revelation 22:16 says, “I Jesus . . . am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.”  Jesus was with God when He created the world (see Genesis 1:26) and He created David.  He is the offspring of David because He became flesh so he could save us from sin (John 1:14 & Romans 3:25).

Revelation 1:5 says, “. . . Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. . . .”  He is King now and eternally.

Revelation 3:7 says, “. . . These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;”  (See also Revelation 3:8.)

It takes the key of David to open and shut the door to get to God.  It is open to men who really want God, and it is shut in the face of the devil and all who try to deceive or manipulate the Word of God.

The Key of David – what is it?  David entered into the presence of the Lord through praise, thanksgiving, and worship.  That is the key.  Every time John saw God do something in heaven, praise and worship was going on.  God is being glorified, because God created all things for His pleasure.  Worship gives God pleasure.  John 4:23-24 says, “But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.  God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”

Jesus taught us to praise as He first taught us to pray.  (See Matthew 6:6-13 and Luke 11:1-4.)  Many people are filled with the Holy Ghost and the power to become sons of God like Jesus - under the anointing of praise.

Psalm 100:4 says, “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.”  As you enter into his gates with thanksgiving you are in the outer edge, the outer court.  You enter into the second court with praise.  You enter into the veil with worship.  It is a breaking down of the natural man.  One of the biggest wars you fight is trying to step out of the natural and go into the Spirit and worship God.

David appointed singers and musicians.  He praised the Lord as a little boy out watching the sheep.  He killed a lion and a bear to protect the sheep.  All nations feared King David.  He was also a glorious worshipper of God.  You could not stand in the presence of David and call him effeminate.  His sword was the one he took from a Philistine giant named Goliath.  He took the devil’s weaponry and started using it against him.  God started him out with a pebble.  Then God had him take away the sword of the enemy.

Jesus said in John 14:2, “. . . I go to prepare a place for you.”  Where the devil used to walk, I can walk.  Where the devil used to praise, I can praise.  Jesus said He will give us keys to the kingdom of heaven and God said in Psalm 84:11, “. . . no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.”  Don’t listen to the howl of the flesh, the world, and the devil trying to drown out the cry of the Spirit in your soul that says, I must have Jesus.

David used those keys to open the door of heaven.  He prayed before every battle, and God told him what to do and how to do it!  Once He told him to wait till he heard a certain sound, then he knew when to go, because then the Lord was going in front of him to smite the enemy.  Don’t be discouraged; the battle is the Lord’s.  Wait on God and believe Him no matter what goes on.  (See 2 Samuel 5:23, Isaiah 40:31, 1 John 4:4, and Romans 8:31.)  Isaiah 54:17 says, “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper. . . .”

David had a key to get to God, because he was a man after God’s heart.  Galatians 5:16 says, “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.”  Build yourself up in faith according to Jude 1:20, praying in the Holy Ghost.  Dying to self and the world ushers us into the spirit realm with God.

The unbelieving and the unholy do not enter into the holy place of the kingdom of God.  (See Hebrews 3:18-19 and Romans 6:16.)

The key of David shuts doors against the devil and opens doors to heaven.  Let’s worship God, because that is how you get into the Spirit.  2 Corinthians 3:17 says, “Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”

Worship is giving your love to God!  God is an awesome God.  He can take the feeblest man and turn him into something special if he will lay down all his own ways and devices and yield to God.  Be thankful for what God has done and worship Him for He is worthy.  Worship is the key
