LESSON #1
1. You must first believe God is God.
But without faith it is impossible to please him; for he
that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a
rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Hebrews 11:6.
2. You must believe that God does not lie.
God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of
man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not
do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
Numbers 23:19.
In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie,
promised before the world began; Titus 1:2.
3. God wants us to KNOW that it is impossible for him to
lie. Webster's Dictionary's meaning for immutable is:
never changing or varying; unchangeable.
(16) For men verily swear by the greater: and an
oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife.
(17) Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew
unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his
counsel, confirmed it by an oath: (18) That by two
immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to
lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for
refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: (19) Which
hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and
stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;
(20) Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus,
made an high priest for ever after the order of
Melchisedec. Hebrews 6:16-20.
4. God and his Word are eternal.
For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven. Psalm
119:89.
5. God's Word is inspired by God himself.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is
profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for
instruction in righteousness: 2 Timothy 3:16.
6. He had his laws written so man could know his
will and therefore obey him. Men of God wrote His words
down. Read Luke 4:4.
(20) Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the
scripture is of any private interpretation. (21) For the
prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy
men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. 2
Peter 1:20-21.
For whatsoever things were written aforetime were
written for our learning, that we through patience and
comfort of the scriptures might have hope. Romans 15:4.
7. God's Word is irrefutable (incapable of being
disproved), proven, and sure. He shows in it the way to
eternal life. He will punish those who do not believe it and
those who try to change it.
(17) And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let
him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst
come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life
freely. (18) For I testify unto every man that heareth the
words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add
unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that
are written in this book: (19) And if any man shall take
away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God
shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out
of the holy city, and from the things which are written in
this book. Revelation 22:17-19.
8. Jesus is the living Word.
(1) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was
with God, and the Word was God. (2) The same was in the
beginning with God. (3) All things were made by him; and
without him was not any thing made that was made. (4) In
him was life; and the life was the light of men. John
1:1-4.
(12) But as many as received him, to them gave he power
to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on
his name: (13) Which were born, not of blood, nor of the
will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
(14) And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and
we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of
the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:12-14.
9. Jesus, the living Word of God, gave infallible proofs of
the validity of the old testament word by fulfilling
prophecy of himself (Christ) in the old testament scriptures,
in the new testament. He also gave infallible proof of his
resurrection.
To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion
by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days,
and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of
God: Acts 1:3.
