__________________________________

There was an extreme cost paid by Jesus for the sins of the whole world. Can we comprehend what Jesus went through to redeem us to God? He was in agony, betrayed, forsaken, spat upon, buffeted, smitten, scourged, crucified, marred, reviled, mocked, despised, rejected, arrested, denied, stripped of his clothing, wounded, bruised, and shamed. The sins of the whole world were laid upon him at Calvary (1 John 2:2, 1 John 4:10, and Romans 3:24-26). We are to be thankful for God's mercy in sending his Son to pay this awful price for our salvation. We must not neglect so great a salvation (Hebrews 10:29 and Hebrews 2:3).

1. JESUS SUFFERED MUCH FOR US

AGONY
And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground. Luke 22:44.

NO ONE TO HELP PRAY
(45) And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow, (46) And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. Luke 22:45-46.

BETRAYED
Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Matthew 26:45. Read Matthew 26:14-16, Matthew 26:21, Matthew 20:18, Matthew 27:3-10, Hebrews 10:26-31, and Hebrews 12:16-17.

FORSAKEN
And they all forsook him, and fled. Mark 14:50.

SPAT ON, BUFFETED, SMITTEN
I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting. Isaiah 50:6.

Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands, Matthew 26:67.

And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head. Matthew 27:30.

SCOURGED
Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him. John 19:1.

MARRED
As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men: Isaiah 52:14.

REVILED
And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads, Matthew 27:39.

MOCKED
And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and smote him. Luke 22:63.

DESPISED AND REJECTED
(3) He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. (4) Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. (5) But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:3-5.

SHAME
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2.

CRUCIFIED
And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots. Matthew 27:35.

HE WAS CALLED A BLASPHEMER
And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth. Matthew 9:3

HE WAS CALLED A GLUTTON AND A WINE BIBBER.
The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners, But wisdom is justified of her children. Matthew 11:19.

HE WAS CALLED A DECEIVER.
Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again. Matthew 27:63.

2. JESUS PAID THE PRICE FOR OUR SALVATION

And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. Hebrews 9:22. Read Matthew 26:28, 1 John 1:7, and Acts 20:28.

(14) Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. (15) For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. (16) Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:14-16.

For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. 1 Corinthians 6:20. Read Romans 8:12-13.

(18) Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; (19) But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: (20) Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, (21)Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. 1 Peter 1:18-21. Read to end of verse 23. Read Hebrews 2:9-10.

3. JESUS CAME TO MINISTER to us and took on him the form of a servant. He is our example.

(5) Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: (6) Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: (7) But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: (8) And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Philippians 2:5-8.

(25) But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. (26) But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; (27) And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: (28) Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. Matthew 20:25-28. Read Matthew 23:11.

4. THE SERVANT IS NOT ABOVE HIS MASTER.

(13) Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. (14) If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. (15) For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. (16) Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. John 13:13-16.

We must obey Jesus and follow his example. We must repent, be born again, and be baptized in water. He commanded that we receive the Holy Ghost. When Jesus received the Holy Ghost, ". . . the Spirit driveth him into the wilderness" (Mark 1:10-13). Our wilderness may be any empty room in the house or elsewhere else. Jesus was alone with God and prayed. We must get alone with the Lord and pray. There will be temptation and hours of fasting and prayer.

You may encounter false accusations, unjust decisions, misunderstandings, and persecutions (2 Timothy 3:12). You will pray for lost souls to be saved. You will seem to be alone in these times. Jesus was scourged (whipped). Remember-the servant is not above his master. Jesus tasted vinegar and gall. A servant of God following Jesus Christ is not allowed to draw back from the suffering that comes with bearing the cross (Hebrews 10:38-39 and Luke 9:62). Because you carry the cross, you will lose your life and die to flesh. As you die, Christ is resurrected in you. Read all of Philippians Chapter 3 and verses 10 and 11 particularly.

For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's the same shall save it. Mark 8:35.

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20.

5. REQUIRED

There are some things we are required to do as children of God. It is what we must do to stay saved. We must yield our will to God and obey him. Read 2 Corinthians 11:3 about the "simplicity that is in Christ" and Isaiah 35:8.

YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 3:3. Read 1 Peter 1:23.

YOU MUST BELIEVE GOD
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Hebrews 11:6.

YOU MUST OBEY GOD
Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? Romans 6:16.

Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; Hebrews 5:8.

YOU MUST LOVE
In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. 1 John 3:10. Read 1 John 4:20-21.

YOU MUST FORGIVE
But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Matthew 6:15. Read Matthew 18:21-35, Matthew 6:12, Mark 11:25-26.

YOU WILL SUFFER
(12) Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: (13) But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. (14) If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. 1 Peter 4:14.

Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. 2 Timothy 3:12.

And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. Galatians 5:24. Read 2 Corinthians 7:1, Romans 8:13, Colossians 3:3-6, Hebrews 4:15-16, Hebrews 13:5-6, and 1 Corinthians 10:13.

Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God. Acts 14:22. Read Revelation 2:10 and 2 Corinthians 1:7.

(16) The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: (17) And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. (18) For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. Romans 8:16-18.

YOU WILL BE CHASTISED Read Hebrews 12:8-10. Read all of Hebrews Chapter 12.

YOU MUST GIVE YOUR ALL

Read Matthew 13:45-46. Your love for God has to so outshine your love for every thing else, that you let no one and no thing hinder your life for Christ. You must love God so much that you hate yours in comparison. Anything you put before God becomes an idol and your god. Read Philippians 3:19 about those whose belly is their god. Another commandment is that we shall not covet; don't put anything before Jesus. Some put themselves or other people before God (Romans 1:25). He does not literally want us to hate people; God must come first in your life.

(26) If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. (27) And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. Luke 14:26-27. Read Matthew 10:37-38.

(2) Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. (3) For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. (4) Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin. Hebrews 12:2-4.

Your cross must be taken up DAILY, willingly, and faithfully. It is easy to make a commitment when you feel the anointing from God drawing you, but many fail to take up the cross EVERY day. The world does not understand why we suffer or about the cross we have to bear. Sickness is not the cross Jesus wants us to bear; He paid the price for our healing at Calvary. Our cross includes whatever we have to bear in order to be obedient to God's Word.

And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. Luke 9:23.

(30) And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. (31) And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. Mark 12:30-31.

YOU MUST SUBMIT TO GOD'S WILL
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7.

Even if we don't like it, we must submit to whatever God wants. One man asked Jesus how to inherit eternal life (Mark 10:17). Jesus told him about the ten commandments. When the man said he had done these from his youth, Jesus loved him and told him one thing he still hadn't done. He had obeyed the commandments but God wants to be put first—before our deepest heart's desires. Whether you have little or much, God requires it all. He wants all of our heart. Read Mark 10:21-22 and Luke 12:15.

SACRIFICE
(1) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. (2) And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:1-2.

So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do. Luke 17:10.

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. Psalm 51:17. Read Psalm 34:18 and Proverbs 15:13.

PRAYER
As a child of God we will become a living sacrifice. Jesus asked his disciples if they could not watch with him one hour. This is one reason some Christians individually or as a group pray for one hour at times. Jesus is disappointed when we can't hold out for at least one hour to pray, or to read and study the word. This flesh must come into subjection to the Spirit of God.

And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? Matthew 26:40. Read also Mark 14:37.

6. REPUTATION

There will be false prophets and teachers. You will know them by their fruits. Read 2 Peter 2:1-9 and Matthew 7:15-23. God can consider a person as perfect because Jesus' blood is applied, even though that one may not be considered perfect by anyone else's judgment.

(24) The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord. (25) It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household? Matthew 10:24-25.

God requires of us no more than he did of Jesus. but we shall be as our master-Jesus. That includes the good and the bad. Jesus was misunderstood, called many ungodly names, and mocked, BUT he was approved of God. Read Acts 2:22 and Acts 10:38.

Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets. Luke 6:26. Read 2 Corinthians 10:18.

7. GODLY REPUTATION

How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only? John 5:44. Read John 12:26.

(29) Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness; and hold such in reputation: (30) Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me. Philippians 2:29-30.

Read: 1 Thessalonians 4:4, Acts 24:16, Luke 17:2, Ephesians 5:10, 1 Corinthians 10:32-33, Philippians 1:9-11, 1 Timothy 1:4-5, 1 Peter 3:8-18, Proverbs 24:16, 1 Timothy 5:17.

Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour: so doth a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour. Ecclesiastes 10:1.

8. JESUS PAID THE PRICE AND WE MUST PAY THE PRICE

Jesus gave his all—100 percent. We must give the same. Ananias and Sapphira kept back part of the price of their land and LIED about it. GOD KNOWS if you have given him your all or just part. The Holy Ghost will deal with you and let you know where you stand with God (Philippians 3:15). If you want to grow up in God, you must pay the full price—giving him all of you. Don't deceive yourself and don't let the devil or anyone else deceive you. Receive the love of the truth (read 2 Thessalonians 2:10 & John 8:32). God punished them for lying. Read Acts 5:2-4. It was in their power to give all or part. Jesus gave his all. He laid down his life willingly.

(17) Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. (18) No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father. John 10:17-18.

Read 1 Peter 2:19-20. (21) For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: (22) Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: (23) Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: (24) Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. 1 Peter 2:21-24.

9. COUNT THE COST

Jesus counted the cost and followed through. Paul counted the cost and said he had finished his course. Judas counted the cost for betraying Jesus, but he wanted 30 pieces of silver more than he wanted Jesus. Afterward he was sorry, but there comes a time when it is too late to repent. The damage was done; He played around with God too long. We must keep the fear of God in our hearts. Jesus said beware of covetousness (Luke 12:15). When you are covetous, you desire something more than God.

Read all of Luke 14:25-35. When we start serving God, our foundation is laid in Christ Jesus and then we build on it. If you don't finish the race and obtain eternal life, men and devils will mock you.

Jesus was priced by man at 30 pieces of silver. Read Zechariah 11:12-13, Matthew 26:14-16, and Matthew 27:3-10.

Birthright was valued to be less than a bowl of pottage by Esau. Read Hebrews 12:14-17. A prophet disobeyed God and died because he wouldn't fast. He was going to obey, but a "so called" prophet lied to him. Read 1 Kings all of Chapter 12-13 and Isaiah Chapter 58. Children were torn by she bears because of their mocking tongues in 2 Kings Chapter 2. Read James 1:26, and Proverbs 18:21. The wages of sin is death. . Read Proverbs 28:13, John 8:31, Chapters 1 & 2 of 1 John, and Isaiah 55:1-2. We must continue in Christ to be saved

And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. Matthew 10:22.
