GRACE:
disposition to grant something freely; favor; good will; mercy.
In theology it is (a) the unmerited love and favor of God
toward man; (b) divine influence acting in man to make him
pure and morally strong; (c) the condition of a person thus
influenced.
FALL FROM
GRACE: to do wrong; sin.
GRACIOUS:
merciful; compassionate.
JUSTIFIED:
freed from the penalty of sin.
PERFECT:
complete in all respects, without defect or omission. in a
condition of complete excellence. pure, complete.
MATURE:
full-grown, fully developed.
MATURITY:
a being perfect, complete, or ready!
And the
Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say,
Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will,
let him take the water of life freely. Revelation 22:17.
GRACE
Our God
is the only God there is. He is the Creator, Lord of all,
and King of kings. God holds all power and authority; He is
the Almighty God. God has many names. He is a HOLY GOD.
When
Adam sinned, the curse of death fell on all human beings.
We have to be redeemed because Adam fell. God made a way,
by his GRACE, to be reconciled to him. God's grace is the
only way we can escape hell.
God has
set before us life and good and death and evil (Deuteronomy
30:15 &19). If we believe and obey God we can be saved. Jesus
will forgive and take away our sins, guilt, and shame and
will set us free from every bondage of the devil. How wondrous!
Our God,
who hates sin, purposely sent his only begotten son (John
3:15-17) to die a painful and shameful death in order to redeem
us from sin. Galatians 3:13 says ". . . Cursed is everyone
that hangeth on a tree." God loves his Son and is well pleased
with him (Matthew 3:17). Read 1 Peter 2:24.
1. JESUS
DIED FOR US
Read
Isaiah Chapter 53. Read about Jesus' death and resurrection
in Matthew, Chapter 26-28, and his resurrection in Mark Chapter
16, John Chapter 20-21, and Luke Chapter 24.
For if
by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they
which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness
shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ. Romans 5:17.
But we
see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for
the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that
he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. Hebrews
2:9.
We are
justified and redeemed by the grace of God through the death
of his Son, Jesus Christ. The grace of God is a very precious
thing. God planned our salvation before the world began. We
are saved by grace.
That
being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according
to the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:7. Read Romans 3:24.
For ye
know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was
rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his
poverty might be rich. 2 Corinthians 8:9.
Who hath
saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according
to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace,
which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began.
2 Timothy 1:9.
(11)
For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. (12)
How think ye? if a man have a hundred sheep, and one of them
be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and
goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?
(13) And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you,
he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine
which went not astray. (14) Even so it is not the will of
your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones
perish. Matthew 18:11-14.
2. SALVATION
IS BY GRACE, NOT EARNED
The grace
of God (unmerited love and favor of God toward man) is given
to us. WE CANNOT EARN IT. John 1:17 tells us that Moses gave
us the law but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. Micah
6:7-8 lets us know what God requires of us.
But God
commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet
sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8.
In whom
we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins,
according to the riches of his grace; Ephesians 1:7.
(7) That
in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of
his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
(8) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not
of yourselves: it is the gift of God: (9) Not of works, lest
any man should boast. Ephesians 2:7-9.
By whom
we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand,
and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Romans 5:2.
(6) Wherein
ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye
are in heaviness through manifold temptations: (7) That the
trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold
that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found
unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus
Christ: (9) Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation
of your souls. (13) Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind,
be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be
brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 1 Peter
1:6, 7, 9, 13. Read all of the first chapter of 1 Peter.
3. GOD
OF ALL GRACE
God made
the captain of our salvation, Jesus, perfect through sufferings.
We are servants of Jesus and the servant is not above his
master, but shall be as his master (Luke 6:40). Read 2 Cor.
1:7 and 1 Peter 4:12-14 (partakers of Christ's sufferings).
Read 1 Peter 5:5-10.
For it
became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things,
in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their
salvation perfect through sufferings. Hebrews 2:10.
(10)
But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal
glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while,
make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you, (11) To
him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. (12) By
Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have
written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the
true grace of God wherein ye stand. 1 Peter 5:10-12. Read
Colossians 1:20-23.
God says
that we will suffer a while and after that, he will make us
perfect. It is the will of God that we grow up in Christ as
we seek God and receive grace from him. Jesus is the Author
and Finisher of our faith. God wants us to become a finished
work (Ephesians 2:9). He works on us like a potter does the
clay. Raw clay is of no use in its natural form. We must be
worked on and made into a vessel for the Master's use. Read
Jeremiah 18:1-6.
But now,
O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our
potter; and we all are the work of thy hand. Isaiah 64:8.
God gives
us grace so that we can attain to perfection. Read about perfection
in: Matthew 5:48, Matthew 19:20-21, Luke 6:40, John 17:20-24,
Romans 12:1-3, 1 Cor. 13:10, 2 Cor. 13:11, Galatians 3:1-4
(not made perfect by the flesh, have ye suffered in vain),
Ephesians 4:13-16 (not children, grow up), Philippians 3:7-15,
Colossians 1:28, Colossians 4:12, 1 Thessalonians 3:10, 2
Timothy 3:16-17, Hebrews 5:8-9, Hebrews chapter 10, Hebrews
12:23, Hebrews 13:20-21, James 1:3-4, James 2:22, James 3:2,
1 John 4:15-17.
4. GRACE
VERSUS PRIDE
For thus
saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose
name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him
also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the
spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite
ones. Isaiah 57:15.
As we
daily serve God, we must put our pride to death, overcoming
it. Read Daniel 4:37, Exodus 33:19, Proverbs 3:34, and James
4:5-10. If we humble ourselves before the Lord, he will lift
us up. Nebuchadnezzar testified that God was able to abase
the proud.
Let us
therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may
obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews
4:16.
5. GRACE
FOR DAILY LIVING
But unto
every one of us is given grace according to the measure of
the gift of Christ. Ephesians 4:7.
And he
said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny
himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. Luke
9:23. Read Romans 14:12.
If it
were not possible for us to live for God daily, he would not
have commanded us to do it.
For there
is no respect of persons with God. Romans 2:11. For the grace
of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men. Titus
2:11.
For there
is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same
Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. Romans
10:12.
(12)
And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for
that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;
(13) Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious:
but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
(14) And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with
faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. 1 Timothy 1:12-14.
God's
grace enabled Paul to be saved and to become a minister of
the gospel. God's grace is sufficient for each soul to be
saved and become a servant of God. The mercy and grace showed
to Saul was expounded upon in verse 16.
Howbeit
for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ
might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them
which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.
1 Timothy 1:16.
If you
live an overcoming life in Christ Jesus, then your life is
a testimony to others of the grace of God. Read Acts 14:3.
When God saves us we are new creatures in Christ (2 Corinthians
5:17). We are babies in knowledge and in grace. Read 2 Peter
1:2.
But grow
in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus
Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. 2 Peter
3:18.
Wherefore
we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have
grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence
and godly fear: Hebrews 12:28.
(1) I
beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that
ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable
unto God, which is your reasonable service. (2) And be not
conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing
of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable,
and perfect, will of God. (3) For I say, through the grace
given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think
of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think
soberly, Romans 12:1-3.
6. THE
GRACE OF GOD IS SUFFICIENT FOR YOU.
And he
said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength
is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I
rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may
rest upon me. 2 Corinthians 12:9. Read 2 Corinthians 12:7.
A. IT
IS ENOUGH
Don't
let the devil trick you into thinking that God's grace is
not enough for you to get the victory over Satan, evil, tribulation,
or anything. God is the Almighty God. Besides him, there is
no other god. Read Romans 8:31-39. Read Leviticus 26:8 and
Deuteronomy 32:30.
What
shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can
be against us? Romans 8:31.
God will
not be "for us" if we continue in sin. Sin will separate us
from God. If we sin, we must confess and forsake it (Proverbs
28:13).
But your
iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your
sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. Isaiah
59:2. Read 2 Peter 3:9.
B. OVERCOME
We can
overcome the world, sin, Satan, and the flesh because Jesus
commanded us to. He is just and would not tell us to do something
if it was not possible to do it.
Be not
overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:21.
(8) Be
sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a
roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: (9)
Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions
are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. 1
Peter 5:8-9.
There
hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man:
but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted
above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also
make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. 1 Corinthians
10:13.
For we
have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling
of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as
we are, yet without sin. Hebrews 4:15.
(4) For
whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is
the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. (5)
Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth
that Jesus is the Son of God? 1 John 5:4-5. Read John 16:33.
We are
not supposed to let sin rule us. We must keep this flesh surrendered
to God.
For sin
shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the
law, but under grace. Romans 6:14.
But I
keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that
by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should
be a castaway. 1 Corinthians 9:27.
But none
of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto
myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the
ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify
the gospel of the grace of God. Acts 20:24.
(37)
Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through
him that loved us. (38) For I am persuaded, that neither death,
nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor
things present, nor things to come, (39) Nor height, nor depth,
nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from
the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans
8:37-39.
The grace
of God that is given to us is not only so we can make heaven
by overcoming evil, but that other souls would see our testimony
and be encouraged to get saved, endure to the end, and obtain
eternal life.
For our
rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in
simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but
by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world,
and more abundantly to you-ward. 2 Corinthians 1:12. Reread
1 Timothy 1:12-16.
C. BUT
I SINNED!
We are
commanded by God not to sin; why do we sin? What happens to
us if we sin? What about the grace of God? Read ALL of 1 John
chapter 3!
My little
children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not.
And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus
Christ the righteous: 1 John 2:1.
(8) He
that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth
from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested,
that he might destroy the works of the devil. (9) Whosoever
is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth
in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 1 John
3:8-9.
All have
sinned and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). When
we sin we are to immediately repent. It is the grace of God
that gives us space to repent (Revelation 2:21-23). We are
never guaranteed that "space to repent" as we don't know when
physical death may occur. Death holds no age barriers. Don't
harden your heart and stay in sin. Born of God? When we get
saved we are "born again" and this time we are "born of God."
We are called the children of God. God cannot sin for he is
a Holy God. The older the child, the heavier the responsibility
and the consequences (NOW) for sin. It is appointed unto man
once to die and then the judgment (Hebrews 9:27). NO sin will
enter heaven.
7. GRACE
IN VAIN?
But by
the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed
upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than
they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
1 Corinthians 15:10.
We then,
as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive
not the grace of God in vain. 2 Corinthians 6:1.
Looking
diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any
root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many
be defiled: Hebrews 12:15. [Example: Matthew 6:15] Read also
1 Corinthians 15:1-2.
8. GOD
GIVES GRACE AND STRENGTH
For the
LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and
glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk
uprightly. Psalm 84:11.
But he
giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud,
but giveth grace unto the humble. James 4:6.
Thou
therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ
Jesus. 2 Timothy 2:1.
And with
great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection
of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. Acts
4:33.
God will
save those that love and fear him and have humbled themselves
before him. In Noah's day, there were only eight persons who
escaped the wrath of God during the flood that covered the
whole earth. "But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.
Genesis 6:8." God will give grace to the humble and contrite
of heart. The wrath of God will be on the ones who reject
God. It is God's grace to us that he draws us to Him to repentance
unto salvation.
Grace
be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity.
Amen. Ephesians 6:24.
9. DON'T
REJECT GOD'S GRACE
Of how
much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy,
who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted
the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an
unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
Hebrews 10:29. Read Zechariah 12:10.
No man
can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw
him: and I will raise him up at the last day. John 6:44.
The grace
of God to us is for our salvation. Both the Old and New Testament
scriptures tell us that every knee shall bow to God. Not all
shall be saved but all will have to acknowledge that God Almighty
is God (2 Thessalonians 2, Matthew 7:21, and all of Matthew
Chapter 7). Read John 5:24, Romans 8:13, Jeremiah 21:8, and
Romans 6:23.
I have
sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness,
and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every
tongue shall swear. Isaiah 45:23.
For it
is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow
to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. Romans 14:11.
It is
a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Hebrews 10:31.
