BIND THE STRONG MAN

Avenue of Faith #4

Preface

(cast out devils, God is stronger)

This book is about casting out the devil.  Mark 3:27 says, “No man can enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.”

Spoil the goods means to eliminate activity.  Spoil the house means to cleanse the lifestyle.  You cast the devil out and the Lord takes over the person.

God saves us by the blood of Jesus.  Then He fills us with the Holy Ghost that we might receive the things of God.  We have to pray through and get into the deeper things of God.

We are in spiritual warfare, and we must be saved, and strengthened in God, before we begin deliverance ministry.

Romans 12:21 says, “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.”

BIND THE STRONG MAN

Avenue of Faith #4

by Pastor Kevin Badgley

Hebrews 11:6 says, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”  We desire to serve the Lord, and we want to be all that He has called us to be.  However, sometimes the road gets bumpy and things seem impossible.  Some things are impossible because they are not in the will of God, or they are not orchestrated by God.

All of God’s promises are yea and amen to them that believe.  Jesus said in Matthew 8:13, “. . . Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto

thee. . . .”  There are more promises than there are warnings in the Word of God.  The warnings are definitive and they must be observed.  You will not see God’s miracles by any other means than God.

The devil will share his house and his goods with anybody, but God is far more particular.  God won’t share His house, or His goods, or His glory, with anybody.  God is undefiled, and He is holy.  Whatever He is in, He makes holy.  He sanctifies us and sets us apart for His purpose.

God created us in His image, and the devil’s favorite pastime is destroying us.  Many have labored, and strained, and worried when life seems impossible while trying to serve the Lord. All the while the problem is that there is a devil in the way.

Mark 3:25 says, “And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.”  Verse 27 says, “No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.”

Spoil the goods means to eliminate activity.  Spoil the house means to cleanse the lifestyle.  You get rid of one type of life and beget a brand new life.  You cast the devil out and the Lord is ushered in.  He takes over the person.

The church world is struggling with her faith.  There is plenty of Biblical sound teaching, but it won’t work if there is a devil present.  I am not excusing the flesh.  We preach against carnal activity and fleshly living that thwarts and hinders the promises of God.  However, there needs to be preaching that there could be an entity there - an intellectual, powerful, seductive spirit that can hinder.  Everything else can be in place - the knowledge of the mind and the position of good sound teaching, but it doesn’t work.

Consider this scenario.  Two men were going to San Francisco, and the first man said to the other, “By the way, I am driving my car to San Francisco in the next few days.”  The second man said, “Well, could I ride with you?”  The first man said, “Are you going to San Francisco?”  The second man said “Yes.”  The first man said “Are you going the route I am taking?”  The second man said “I would be more than happy to ride with you on the route you are taking. I will stay where you stay, and go where you go.  My goal is to get to San Francisco just like you.” The first man said, “Well then, hop on in, and we will car pool.  It will save us some gas.”

When they arrived in San Francisco some time later, the first man visited a sick friend and gave money to their family that they might do better.  It was a God sent mission on his part.  The other man said he would catch up with him later and he went on down the street and murdered a man.  He came back and didn’t tell the first man.  He said, “I did my mission. Did you do yours?”  “Most certainly,” replied the first man.  “Well, are you returning to Grand Chain?  If so, do you mind if I ride along with you?” The first man agreed that he could go.  They arrived home, and the first man later read in the paper about the murder.

The first man was a benevolent soul, the second man was a murderer.  They rode in the same automobile.  Their purpose to get to the destination was for entirely different reasons.

Knowing this, we say that we would not have given the murderer a ride.  We would not have stayed in the same places or have anything to do with him, because his mission was entirely different from our own.  However, if you don’t know the intent, the mission, the man, or the spirit, it could ride with you all the way to and from.  It would give you no problem.

Thousands of times in history this has happened in similar situations.     Whole towns can be destroyed.  That murder spirit has always been there, waiting his time.  Satan has assignments sent out and he will ride with anybody.

Equate it with this now.  Is it possible that what you desire may be Biblical, but maybe something is wrong with the journey?  I tell you of a truth that devils can make it happen also.  God said in a prophecy once, “Never mistake my tolerance for my approval.”

God tolerates a lot, but He approves of very little.  It is a straight way.  Why is God so particular about doing it His way?  Constantly we try to tweak God’s commands.  The Word of God says something and we wrestle with it.  2 Peter 3:16 says, “As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.”

God is particular about you obeying just the way He tells you, because He knows that the devil, if you deviate a little, has been given place, and he will ride with you all the way to San Francisco.  Many times God will let your miracles die, because He doesn’t want you to bring forth something of the devil.  God has done this many times to protect man. God does not want the devil mixed in it.

However, when a person consistently and hardheadedly has said no to the Spirit of God, He will hand them over to a reprobate mind that does the thinking for you (see Romans 1).  Jesus turned and rebuked Peter and said, “Get thee behind me, Satan.”  (See Matthew 16:23.)  He looked at Peter and spoke to Satan.  Peter was forbidding Jesus to be crucified, humiliated, and to go through all of that trouble.  The man Peter had compassion on what he saw.  He didn’t think it was a good witness for God, as it would mess up all the things He taught, and preached, and the miracles would suddenly be negated.  Peter wanted this to be far from the Lord.

Jesus told Satan to shut up.  It doesn’t say how Peter reacted to that, but I am sure it shook him up, and the devil left him.  If he had argued with Him, the devil would have stayed.  The devil can get in the smallest details of your doctrine, or your life, and the way you think.

It is all important that we know that we must first bind the strong man.  Before you are going to get somebody saved, the devil must be bound in prayer.    How do you have the strength to do that?  Change cannot come unless the house is clean and ready, pure, and ready for the infilling of the Holy Ghost, ready for sanctification, instruction, revelation, and manifestation.  Simply put – prayed through.  You must be fully and continually yielded to God.

Luke 11:21 says, “When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace:”  His goods are secure.  Verse 22 says, “But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him. . . .

1 John 4:4 says, “. . . greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”  That is for a child of God, but you must have overcoming power.  If you don’t, you will never cast out devils, and for the most part, you won’t be able to discern one until the deed is done, and you are in clean up operations.  God never ordained that.

Luke 11:22 says, “But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.”  He, Jesus, the stronger man, taketh from the devil all his armor!  The devil trusts that you won’t take this message personally.  Satan works in darkness. He grandstands his activities, but he never grandstands himself.  He is flashy in activity, but never himself, so as not to reveal himself.  To the general public he doesn’t want to be exposed, because then people would start believing that there could possibly be a devil.

Jesus preached more on devils and hell than He ever did on heaven and angels.  He wants you to have revelation of the Word and the Spirit of God so you can work unhindered.

For instance, some religions are not understood as the devil’s tool.  It is thought of as a bunch of people who have a different tweak on how people ought to be converted. One religion says, “Convert or die.”  This is a peon devil.  He is not a major prince, but princes work with him through men.  He is a murder spirit.  He has to have something to justify murder, so he formed a religion around it.  The goal is not religion, the goal is murder to take a man out before he gets saved by the blood of Jesus.  They are kept in bondage by fear of death.

You must address the thing at its root.  You must get in its face. It is an entity, seeking whom he may devour.  It has legs and eyes and ears and intellect.  If you have a problem with something you can’t get rid of for years, if it is chronic and you can’t get over it, it is a devil.  It is not a chemical imbalance or a gene you picked up from great granddaddy.

Now, the curse causeless doesn’t come.  There is always a reason for the curse, but granddaddy may have had the same problem.  When you get born again, the curse is broken.  If you are born again, the devil is gone, and Jesus is in, and you are not subject to the curse any more.  John 8:36 says, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”

Either you are saved or you are not saved.  Luke 11:23 says, “He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.”  God does not take a neutral position.  Satan will take almost any position he can get to survive.  When Jesus rebuked Peter, He said in Matthew 16:23, “. . . thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.”

Fallen man, whether he understands it or not, savors the things of Satan, because we live in a fallen world and we have a fallen nature.  God saves us by the blood of Jesus.  Then He fills us with the Holy Ghost that we might receive the things of God.  We start out as children and we grow up into sons of God, no matter what your gender is.  The whole creation groans and desires for God’s people to get real and pray through so they can get some relief.

The avenue of faith must first have the way cleared.  There are devil possessed people praying to God trying to get God’s Spirit, when they have not even been delivered yet.  Luke was a physician, a medical doctor, not trained in spiritual matters.  Even he testified that a woman had a spirit of infirmity who was bowed over and could in no way straighten up.  The woman with the issue of blood also had a spirit of infirmity.  A spirit of infirmity is a devil.

Jesus said in Luke 13:16, “And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?”

It is possible for Christians to be bound – not in their soul, but in their body.  Some people have cancer, which is a spirit of infirmity.  Chronic oppression and melancholy can bring a spirit of infirmity to you.  Melancholy comes when you love yourself more than anybody else.  It can come as a child through abuse or spiritual neglect.  All sinners’ children are subject to devil possession.  Deuteronomy 28 says that.

I will not cease to preach the truth.  Some say I scare people to death, but I am just telling the truth!  I am not saying that you are going to slip on a banana peel any second and go to hell.  When you get saved, God turns you around.  However, there are hindrances to your faith.  There are devil powers that want to stop you, and turn you around, and send you back to the pit.  A stronger one must come and overcome Satan!

Many times I have seen the congregation, not only in my church, but those on TV.  The preaching was excellent, and devil possessed people were amening and saying hallelujah.  The man is trying to get to God, but the devil is along for the ride.

You can’t minister the graces of God by devil power.  You can quote scripture, but you have to be saved.  You can lay hands on somebody, but YOU have to be saved.  Jesus said the TRUTH will make you free.  Some in the Bible responded to Jesus that they had never been in bondage to any man.  However, they were ignorant of the devil’s devices.  They had place for the devil (see Ephesians 4:27).  As we follow Christ and abide in Him, God will save us to the uttermost (see Hebrews 7:25).

If a Christian dies, he goes to heaven.  When the trumpet sounds, he goes to heaven.  If there is an infirm spirit locked on him, does he lose his salvation?  No.

James 5:15 says, “And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.”  Was he talking about praying for lost people who were sick or was he talking about Christians who lost the victory through their sickness?  It is hard to shout hallelujah when you are sick, when your head is splitting, when you are grieved in your body or soul.  There is a purpose in these things.

Revelation 16:13 says, “And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.”  These are unclean spirits that look like frogs.  Verse 14 says, “For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.”

These devils are still working miracles today.  The people don’t know that they are going to the battle.  They think they are going to revival meeting and on to heaven.  They think the miracle coming is of God.  It might be, but if it isn’t, they will take it anyway.  Unclean spirits can perform miracles, but the thing birthed out of it is of the devil.

Don’t you know why God killed David and Bathsheba’s boy baby that was only seven days old?  That boy would have had a murder spirit, an adulterous spirit, an unclean spirit, a priesthood, and a prophet spirit.  He would have been the biggest antichrist you ever saw.  David’s prayer and fasting was of no avail, because that boy was going to die.  Do you understand how many people he would have taken to hell with him?  He would have been the next king of Israel.

Why do people have horrible things happen to them?  God may be saving someone else’s life that isn’t related to them.  Everything has a reason.  God will do what is right; we have to get right with God.  I want to know why people aren’t healed or delivered or filled with the Holy Ghost.  I want to see it done.

Some make excuses, and say that it wasn’t the will of God.  Some say, Maybe it wasn’t God’s will at this time.  That stinks, and it draws flies.  Beelzebub is called the lord of the flies.  He is an unclean spirit, second in command to Satan himself.  A devil is not offensive to fallen man.  He is accepted and sometimes adorable to man.  In religion, which has some discernment, he appears as an angel of light.  No problem, he covers his activity.  Jesus said you will know them by their fruit.

Unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet.  They were able to work miracles and deceive the kings and the rest of the world.  Presidents, congress, prime ministers, all can be easily fooled by unclean spirits.  Christians inadvertently come in agreement with the devil when they pray sometimes.  Don’t agree with someone in their sin.  Get out of that and get in the Spirit.

God is going to start using His ministers to expose sin.  Get it under the blood now, and it will save a whole lot of embarrassment and confusion.  Jesus was crucified after 3 ½ years.  They wanted to kill Him at the beginning of His ministry at His home church, because He identified the problem within the church.

Matthew 15:22 says, “. . . a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.”  Verse 24 says, “But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”  He was saying He was sent to deliver the church so it could deliver her.

You can be a Christian and miss the Rapture, because you are scarcely saved.  God wants you and me to walk with Him and not be ignorant of the devil’s devices.  Jesus sent the Holy Ghost, and it has never been optional.  For a church member to fight him borders on blasphemy.  They killed Steven, and the last thing out of his mouth was him telling them they resisted the Holy Ghost.  In Acts 7:51 he said, “Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost. . . .”

It is the Holy Ghost that casts out the devil.  The blood of Jesus covers saved people.  Then God fills you with the power of the Holy Ghost because you are worthy to walk in it.  The Holy Ghost will glorify Jesus, and this is how he will do it.  He will bring you gifts, one of which is the discerning of spirits.  Another is the working of miracles.

Mark 16:17-18 says, “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”

If you twist the gospel of Christ, the devil is in it.  You may have seen what you thought was Christian people do things, yet all you saw was the devil operating, because it was contrary to scripture.

Can children be devil possessed?  Can they be born that way?  If a kid acts up and doesn’t heed your warning, meaning he has no respect for you, whip his or her butt lest they get devil possessed.  There are some kids in our church that have passed a threshold, and in due season, if the parents do not get control of them, by the grace of God I will be casting the devil out of them, or they will go to hell.

Not everything a child does is cute.  Some of it is of the devil, and it is rebellion.  He is tapping them to see if he can get in.  He doesn’t fight fairly.  He can’t be saved, and he wants us where we can’t be saved.  The devil is a liar and a loser.  Jesus said in John 10:10, “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

Romans 6:16 says, “Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?”  It may not be immediately, but it will happen in due season.  The devil can be very patient.

We are in spiritual warfare.  2 Corinthians 10:4 says, “(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)”

A surgeon cannot cut out an infirm spirit.  Luke, the physician, was used to cutting on people and giving medication.   He was a godly man, and he said that Jesus cast out devils.  Look at Luke 11:21-22 again:  “When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace:  But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.”

Every Christian is stronger than the devil, but not every Christian is overcoming him.  Why?  We are yet too carnal.  We can not do spiritual things in a fleshly way.  You can’t cut out a devil of infirmity.  You can’t counsel out a melancholy spirit.  They love counseling.  They eat it up with a spoon!  That keeps them current, causing you to do what they want you to do.  They are the masters of men that perish.

If it is in the woman, she will manipulate her husband.  If it is in the man, he will manipulate his wife.  Jezebel manipulated Ahab, the most powerful man in Israel.  She was from Zidon.  She manipulated the power of the kingdom and changed the religion of Israel.  She took God Jehovah out and put Baal, the unclean devil, in His place.  She had a lying spirit and an unclean spirit and hundreds of the false prophets of Baal.

It is possible for you to believe for a miracle that is totally orchestrated by Satan.  You can take the Word of God, yet miss out on God entirely.  When the apostles returned from a ministry trip, they told the Lord that devils were subject to them in His name, but in Luke 10:20 Jesus said, “Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.”  He wanted them to make sure of their salvation.  Why?  Because everything they cast out followed them home.

You pray for somebody with an infirm spirit, and the devil will be after you.  You pray for somebody to have a sound mind or to get saved, and confusion will come at you.  It is a devil.  When you pray and stand in the gap for someone else, you had better be prayed up.  You have to have enough for yourself and them!  That is why I pray and plead the blood of Jesus over the one standing in the gap for others, should the enemy try to retaliate.

Sometimes God will just let you have your own way, because you haven’t been listening to Him.  That is why the devil can stay right where he is.  It is a form of unbelief.

In the parable of the unjust steward the Lord told the devil he was out of there.  Luke 16:4 says, “I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.”

Luke 11:24 says, “When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out.”  When the devil doesn’t find rest, he finds help (there is strength in numbers) to return to that house.

Jesus gave us this detailed information about the spirit realm for a reason.  Luke 11:25-26 says, “And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished.  Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.”

The seven other spirits were not more powerful, but MORE WICKED than himself.  If the person is not Holy Ghost filled, and paying mind to the things of God, the devil will come back in, but now there are eight of them instead of one.

The unjust steward said, “I am resolved what to do.”  He had a plan that they would receive them into their houses.  He called every one of his lord’s debtors to him.  That is somebody not prayed through.  It could be a lukewarm Christian.  Unconfessed sin is a debt.

The Lord told us to pray that God would forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.  Mark 11:26 says, “But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.”  He really wasn’t talking about money.  The Lord’s debtor is one who has sin in the camp.  It could be also a Christian who has not prayed through on certain matters.  There is place for the devil.

I have seen this so many times it is unbelievable.  Someone gets all bound up.  You pray for them, and they get free, but they won’t press on in.  They will just stand there, and they won’t even show up for the next service.  The enemy will be back for them.

In Luke 16:5 he said to the first of his lord’s debtors, “How much owest thou unto my lord?”  He told him to write down one half of the amount owed.  To another that owed 100 measures of wheat, he told to write fourscore.  The devil tweaks the scriptures for them.  He is a liar and a deceiver.

A steward is indicative of a manager.  A manager is a manipulator - he uses others to get the job done.  The devil excuses away your sin, your carnality.  Remember that nothing can talk smoother than an unclean spirit.

Romans 12:21 says, “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.”
