SHAKEN
Preface
(in shaky times God can make you unshakable)
Hebrews 12:26-27 says, “Whose
voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised,
saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also
heaven. And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the
removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that
are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may
remain.”
If you really want God, let
Him shake all your idols out! He will shake down everything
the devil has built in you life. God doesn’t want you
deceived. As you seek God, He removes the things
in you that are unlike Him. He makes you pure and what is
left cannot be shaken, because it is of God!
SHAKEN
by Pastor Kevin Badgley
Hebrews 12:25-29 says, “See that ye refuse not him that
speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake
on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away
from him that speaketh from heaven: Whose voice then shook
the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I
shake not the earth only, but also heaven. And this word,
Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things
that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those
things which cannot be shaken may remain. Wherefore we
receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have
grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence
and godly fear: For our God is a consuming fire.”
The Bible shows us from these scriptures that God is in the
business of shaking things up. He has shaken things before,
and He is about to shake things again. He will shake
everything. This isn’t just talking about the last days.
God shakes men, and He will allow Christians to be shaken.
The Bible says that we will be tried, and He will shake
everyone and everything, because He wants things to be
solid. He wants us to be strong, unmovable, and faithful
all the way to the end.
Sometimes what we put our trust in will not hold us.
Sometimes men put their trust in governments that can be
shaken. Some people put their trust in other men that can
be shaken also. Some men put trust in themselves, only to
find that there are days that even they are not trustworthy,
and sometimes they do not know what to do next.
God has promised us in His Word that He is trustworthy. He
has not given His people something to trust in that will not
hold them up. Sometimes we get sidetracked with things or
activities, and we find ourselves getting cold, or
indifferent, or lazy about the things of God. We have put
our confidence in something, even if temporarily, away from
God. However, God is in the business of turning things
upside down and shaking them!
In the book of Acts people said that the disciples turned
the world upside down!
Many times I have seen the power of God descend upon
someone, and they begin to tremble. They feel like they are
being shaken by something or someone. To the sinner or
backslider, God is shaking the devil out! To the Christian,
He is shaking the idols out, for God has said in Exodus
20:3, “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”
If you really want God in your life, He will shake all your
idols out. When He comes close to you in this fashion, you
will feel closer to Him. I would rather have God shake me
to make me right, than for the devil to soothe me and tell
me that I’m just fine like I am! However, if you fight or
wrestle with God, He won’t shake you up; He will shake you
down!
God is in the business of purifying His people, because He
loves us. If a child of God is not going through some kind
of tribulation it could be that they are no threat to the
devil anymore. God shakes down everything that the devil
has tried to build in your life so you will not be deceived!
God shakes people up so that the things that cannot be
shaken will remain. The things that remain are the things
that go to heaven. They are the most important things about
your life that exist.
If you have a problem with your temper, your mouth, or bad
habits, God will allow you to be shaken so that you will
quit them. One of the worst things that God can do is to
let you have your way for a little while. God’s way is the
best way and the only way! If you let idols, or religion,
or false doctrine, or other sins in your life, God in His
love and mercy will shake you hard to get it out of you.
Have you ever seen someone choking because food was caught
in their throat? If it isn’t shaken out of them or removed
somehow they could die! God has a way of shaking us to keep
us from choking on things. Have you ever seen someone come
up to them and push it out of them? It saved their life.
I have seen parents pick up small children by their ankles
and shake them until the thing comes out, and it saved their
life. At first the adult was upset. The child was upset,
but then they realize that they would rather be a little
upset than have someone die!
It is better to be shaken by God, for your own good, than
to choke to death on your own pride. God shakes
everybody. He shakes the sinner and the backslider that
they might come to Jesus. He shakes the Christian that they
might come closer to Jesus. God can see from heaven things
in you and around you that could choke you to death and
destroy your life. It could destroy your walk as a
Christian.
God wants us to be unshakable. That kind of person can be
in a tragedy or with problems going on all around them, yet
they remain calm. They trust the Lord. Others will wonder
what is going on with you. They will ask why you don’t get
worried, and fretful, and careful! You can tell them, I
have trusted the Lord from the beginning, and I will trust
the Lord till the end!
People who go to heaven are people who have been shaken
before, but now cannot be moved. In the Bible we see many
godly men and women who were shaken in their lives. They
went through many difficult, hard times, but when God got
done with them He perfected them and made them strong. They
weren’t dependent on governments, or false religion, or
witchcraft anymore. They were not dependent on themselves
anymore. They were totally dependent on Jesus.
The only thing about a Christian that cannot be shaken is
the Rock, Christ Jesus. He has faced every storm and won
every battle! He has won every victory! He has experienced
every shaking that a man can experience, and He has come
through as the unshakeable Rock of God.
When you receive Jesus as Savior and Lord, you will still go
through difficulties in life, but if you hold on to Jesus
through it all, the day will come that you, too, will be
like a rock. In John 14:12 Jesus said, “. . . He that
believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also.
. . .”
In Mark 16:15-18 Jesus said, “And he said unto them, Go ye
into all the world, and preach the gospel to every
creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved;
but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs
shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast
out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall
take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it
shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and
they shall recover.”
Anytime then, that you face tragedy, you can look at that
situation, and it won’t shake you! You won’t fear anymore!
You won’t doubt anymore! You will believe God! If someone
else has a tragedy, you can lay hands on them and pray, and
God will answer no matter how hopeless it is. There will be
nothing to grip your heart with fear anymore, because you
have walked through the valley of the shadow of death. When
you have been there, and God has been with you, you don’t
have to fear a thing.
The economy of nations is about to fall. Things are about
to collapse all around the world. Men have put their trust
in other men. They have put their trust in good works and
religion. We need to get our trust in Jesus Christ, the Son
of the Living, Most High God. He is the only Rock that
cannot be moved. He cannot be shaken, and if you will hold
fast to Jesus you will not be shaken.
Many people get angry with God when He starts shaking them.
They say, Why do you let this happen to me? Why do these
things happen to my family? Why are things so hard for me?
God has the reason. He is allowing you to be sifted and
shaken. Luke 22:31-32 says, “And the Lord said, Simon,
Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he
may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee,
that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted,
strengthen thy brethren.”
We have a great High Priest in heaven. He is Jesus, the Son
of the most High God. He walks before the throne of God,
the Father, making intercession for you and me, His
children. We should not fear. If God is shaking you,
let Him. Let Him clean you. Let Him purge you. Let
Him show you what is most important in your life. Jesus
should be the most important thing in your life.
Psalm 84:11 says, “For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the
LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he
withhold from them that walk uprightly.”
God wants us to walk uprightly. If He sees us get in a
place where we might stumble or fall, or a place where we
could be killed, He will sometimes come up and shake us to
stop us! He wants to get us right with Him.
You may say, I have things I cannot get out of me. I
have things I cannot make right, but JESUS can deliver
you completely! He can take all of your wickedness away.
He can take all of your evil plans away. He can get you in
a place where He shakes the devil away, and cleans up your
life, but you must trust the Lord. Even if He shakes you,
trust the Lord.
God is shaking all around the world. He is shaking the
church all around the world as well, so that the things that
cannot be shaken will stay put. God wants a people who will
hold fast to Him and not be moved.
Jesus wants to shake you, not to hurt you, but to bless you,
and to deliver you, and to heal you. He wants to fill you
with the Holy Ghost and to bring revival in your soul, so
that you will be strong and unmoveable.
As the Lord deals with your heart, pray to Him honestly and
wholeheartedly. He will answer you.
